All the way back on November 19, I was in Charlotte for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony opening North Carolina's first commuter light-rail line. All aboard for the future of transit!
After Thanksgiving, it was over to Raleigh on November 27 for a statewide Young Democrats fundraiser and social.
That Saturday, December 1, found me in Greensboro for the Guilford Democratic Women's Holiday Party—before I had to rush back home to Winston-Salem to help present awards at our annual Urban League Awards Banquet.
The next day, December 2, it was back to Raleigh for an NAACP rally in support of justice for James Johnson, the young man from Wilson who was falsely accused of a murder—when he had actually helped the police identify the killer. (Congratulations to James and his family—the special prosecutor appointed to review the handling of his case by the local DA's office has this week announced dismissal of the most serious charges against him!)
After our Raleigh fundraiser on December 4, I headed west to Hickory on December 6 to co-sponsor an Equality NC event at the Taste Full Beans Coffee Shop in my old hometown.
Then on December 8 it was a full day at the Progressive Democrats of NC annual meeting in Chapel Hill. That was an exciting day in the campaign, as the PDNC first heard from three Democrats vying for Lieutenant Governor, and then voted by a 72 percent majority to endorse my candidacy. That's a real boost to my case that I'm the progressive Democrat with the record to prove it.
After my Greensboro fundraiser on December 12, I headed east to Warrenton to speak to the Warren County Democratic Party on December 13, and then to Fayetteville to speak to the Cumberland County Progressive Democrats on December 15.
Kay and I will spend Christmas day with family in Hickory and Marion, and then I'll be back on the trail before New Year's.
Check back in as more updates will be coming soon!
