On July 9, I addressed the Davidson County Democratic Women at their monthly meeting in Lexington. We talked economic, environmental, and education policy, health care, and a range of social justice concerns.

On July 14, I spoke to a combined meeting of Cumberland County Young Democrats and Teen Democrats at the Haymont Grill in Fayetteville. It was good to see Congressional candidate Larry Kissell there as well, during his tireless sweeps of the Seventh District—from Fayetteville to Charlotte, and all points in between. Among the meeting participants were a strong contingent from Terry Sanford High School, the intrepid leader of the Fayetteville State University College Democrats, and young leaders from the Fayetteville community. More than a year out from the 2008 general elections, the Cumberland YDs are raring to go, and plan to hone their skills helping Democrats in Fayetteville city elections this fall.

Yesterday, July 21, I made stops in Beaufort and New Bern on the Carolina coast. After starting the day at the Historic Beaufort Road Race, I met with active Democrats from several counties at the Flame Restaurant in New Bern. My former Legal Aid colleagues, Willie Dawson and John Harmon, and local river conservation advocate Doug Phelps, did an outstanding job of bringing us together for an extended discussion of what the office of Lieutenant Governor can do to promote opportunity and good stewardship for the people of eastern North Carolina.
