On July 25, I traveled to the southeastern tip of the state, Sunset Beach in Brunswick County, to speak to the summer leadership training for the N.C. Association of Educators. I spoke to the NCAE again this month, August 11, at their chapter presidents' meeting in Raleigh. I took these opportunities to underline my commitment to closing the resource and achievement gaps in our public schools, and to seeking the advice of classroom teachers on how to help them provide the best possible education for their students.

I met with Democrats in Chatham County on July 28; helped celebrate the new Forsyth County Democratic Headquarters on July 31; spoke to the Guilford County Democratic Women on August 3; and joined with Equality North Carolina to honor Rep. Susan Fisher at an August 4 reception in Asheville.

I spoke to the Stokes County Democratic barbeque in Germanton on August 16; spoke at the re-election kickoff rally for Sen. Steve Goss on a West Jefferson hillside in Ashe County on August 18; and made tracks that same evening to a Democratic barbeque outside Harmony in Iredell County. This Wednesday, August 22, I went back up the mountainside to speak to the Watauga County Democratic Women's Luncheon in Boone.

Everywhere I've gone this month, Democrats are energized about the 2008 campaign. The commitment and enthusiasm are encouraging.

Those are my latest campaign highlights. As always, you're invited to check my website for more background, issue information, and contact information at www.danbesse2008.org.
